Majdi Othman Honored by ASTM Soil and Rock Committee

The award was presented in recognition of outstanding and significant contributions to the soil and rock committee.

ASTM International’s soil and rock committee (D18) has presented its A. Ivan Johnson Outstanding Achievement Award to Majdi Othman, president and CEO of Geosyntec Consultants.

The award was presented in recognition of outstanding and significant contributions to the soil and rock committee. An ASTM International member since 2017, Othman has also received the ASTM Committee on Publications Service Award, for his work as co-editor of its Geotechnical Testing Journal.

Othman’s 32-year consulting career focuses are geotechnical, environmental, and civil engineering. He received his current position at Geosyntec Consultants in 2025, after starting there as an engineer in 1992 and working his way up through various roles. His work involves everything from waste disposal facilities to landfill gas collection and utilization, to remediation of contaminated sites.

In addition to ASTM, Othman is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (ISSMFE), and the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA). He received his doctoral degree in civil/geotechnical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1992.
